19-year-old Norsgaard Jørgensen excels once again
Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen has continued her impressive end to the season by finishing second in the Chrono des Nations time trial on Sunday.
The result is an incredible one for the 19-year-old who is in her first year as a professional. This week the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team announced her two-year contract extension, signalling the team’s strength in developing talent riders into world-class athletes.
The Dane completed the 26.4 kilometre course in 36 minutes 6 seconds.
“It was so hard,” Norsgaard Jørgensen said. “I’ve never turned myself inside out like this. It was amazing. I tried to keep it steady the whole way and it went well. The course was fast which suited me. It was up and down all the time with a lot of wind. It was a really powerful course which was perfect for me.”
Asked about her expectation before the day, she said, “I was scared that I was pushing too hard in the beginning because [General Manager] Thomas Campana told me to keep it steady and not push it too hard. I could feel I was pushing hard but I was feeling super great. To be honest, I didn’t expect this result, I always go for the win but today I was hoping for a top 5 and to win the u23, to get second is amazing.”
Cervélo Bigla leaves the French race with a visible impact with further results from Cecilie Utttrup Ludwig (4th), Ann-Sophie Duyck (6th) and Sophie Wright (12th). Norsgaard Jørgensen won the u23 category with Wright finishing second.
