3 Questions with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio ahead the 2018 season
What does the bicycle mean to you?
To me my bike represents strength and growth. It represents empowerment. When I'm on my bike I feel happy, I feel free, I feel strong. Every ride is a new opportunity to challenge myself and to grow. I've experienced so much personal and spiritual growth through my cycling career ... I have grown in confidence and character. I believe I have become a strong woman and I hope to inspire other women to do the same.
What do you think about the level of partners in the team?
Joining Cervelo Bigla was a career-changing moment for me. From the word go we had support from such amazing partners and the attention to detail has always been exceptional. In professional sport, all the small things make a huge difference. We call this marginal gains. And in Cervelo Bigla, every single rider has the advantage of marginal gains through attention to detail, and word class support from our performance-driven partners. It's a real honour to be part of a women's professional team where we receive the same attention and respect as our male counterparts. This is what I love most about our partners; equality is a given, not an exception.
What's on your mind when you think about 2018?
Balance. As I've grown through my cycling career I've learnt to appreciate the importance of balance. A balanced cyclist is a happy cyclist ... and happiness brings success.
I'm coming into 2018 in a really good space. I finished 2017 on good form and I've had a great off season at home in South Africa having fun on the mountain bike and road bike a like. And enjoying time with family and friends doing some cross training on the water; skiing, wake boarding and other fun activities. This means I feel strong from great training in the sunshine, but I also feel refreshed from enjoying some time doing things I don't often do during the season. I feel happy and motivated, and I can't wait to start the 2018 season.
