Bigla takes on difficult second stage at Giro Rosa
The second stage of the Giro Rosa took the peloton around Viù and although the route was fairly short at only 78km in length, the challenging climb up the Colle des LIs awaited the peloton only 15km after the start of the race. After that ascent, the riders descended into Valli di Lanzo before they reached a slight incline in Lanzo Torinese, where the intermediate sprint was situated. The final 20km led to an uphill finish in Viù. The first breakaway efforts on the Colle des Lis were thwarted by the main field but eventually on the flatter section of the second half of the course two riders were able to break free and carve out a small advantage over the peloton. However, with less than 20 km to go, Bigla drove the chase to bring back the front duo and the escapees were eventually reeled back in. Over the last 4km, the road ramped up and several attacks ensued, but in the end Marianne Vos was able to take the win. Bigla put in a valiant effort on a very hot and testing day but missed out this time on a top 10 placing. However, the team is looking forward to taking its chances when the opportunity arises on the remaining stages of the race.
