Impressions from Dwars door Vlaanderen
The Bigla riders took the start line of the eighth edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen today. With its start in Tielt and finale in Waregem, the 108km-long route featured six hellingen as well as three cobbled sectors, in what proved to be a testing day for the peloton. After around 50km of racing, a group of 11 successfully went clear. The Bigla riders took turns at the front of the main field to try to bring back the escapees, however with the leading group containing several race favourites, and many very strong riders, this would be no easy feat. After a series of attacks from the leading group pushed up the pace, it became impossible for the Bigla riders to reel the leaders back in, despite their best efforts. Ellen van Dijk attacked from the lead group and ended up soloing to victory. The highest-placed Bigla rider today was Julie Leth, who finished the day in 19th position.
