Top 10 für Elise Chabbey auf der dritten Etappe von Emakumeen Bira, während Sophie Wright in der U23-Wertung weiterhin konkurrenzfähig bleibt
Today the Bigla riders took to the third stage of Emakumeen Bira, a 100km-long parcours from Murgia to Santa Teodosia. The route contained two climbs at the end of the day, the latter of which was quite steep at an average gradient of 9.4 per cent and a length of 2.7km. Initially a break of around 13 riders got clear and was eventually caught with 80km still remaining. The race continued amidst rainy conditions, and again several more attacks followed in the subsequent kilometres. With 20km remaining, there were a series of attacks launched from the main field, and in the closing couple of kilometres, despite the chase that was on in earnest in the peloton behind, the field was unable to catch the rider out in front, Tayler Wiles, who went on to win the stage. A sprint to the line ensued for the top 10 positions, and Bigla’s Elise Chabbey was able to notch up a strong eighth place on the stage. Her young teammate, at only 20 years of age, Sophie Wright, finished the day in 18th position, the second-best result of the U23 classification, and also sits in second in that U23 competition in the overall standings. The race now heads into the queen stage, the longest and hardest stage, with 156km of racing around Onto in the central region of the Basque Country, and no less than four climbs to conquer on the way to the finish line in Onati.
