Vorletzte Etappe des Giro Rosa mit schwerer Bergankunft
On the penultimate stage from Gemona-Chiusaforte to Malga Montasio, the riders took on a flat first 75km passage before having to lay it all out on the line 20km before the finish on the final brutal climb in Montasio. The summit was reached after 16km of hard climbing and passages that ramped up to almost 19 percent. Early in the race, a group of seven riders were able to distance themselves from the field and carve out a maximal advantage of over two minutes. On the final ascent, the leaders were caught and the peloton began to split into smaller groups. With less than 10km remaining, a duo led up the climb, followed by a small chasing group. In the end Anna van der Breggen prevailed and took out the stage victory. Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig was the highest-placed Bigla rider, finishing in the top 15. The rest of the team’s riders crossed the line in the series of small groups that subsequently crossed the finish line. After yesterday’s tremendous effort by the team that netted a stage win as well as a second placing, the team still gave it their all on this challenging penultimate stage.
