Elizabeth Banks active yet again at the Tour de Yorkshire
Today the two-day Tour de Yorkshire came to a close with a 132km-long stage from Bridlington to Scarborough. On the way, the peloton had to crest no less than five climbs, including the Grosmont ascent, which featured gradients of up to 15 per cent. The rainy and cold weather conditions also made for a tough day in the saddle. Just like yesterday, the Queen of the Mountain jersey wearer, Lizzy Banks, was particularly active on today’s stage, launching an attack earlier on in the race and taking the first intermediate sprint, and also fighting her way into the chase group later on. In the end, a number of riders were able to break free from this group and fought it out for the win, with Marianne Vos taking the victory. Lizzy was able to hold on to finish in ninth place after almost four hours in the saddle, and with that, also finished in ninth position in the general classification.
