Elizabeth Banks moves into second place on the first stage of Festival of Elsy Jacobs
On the second day of the Festival Elsy Jacobs the riders took on a 107.1km-long course around Steinfort. The parcours was hilly and contained a total of three climbs before the riders reached the slightly uphill finishing straight. Wet and slippery roads made the course treacherous from the start. On the first climb of the day, the peloton fell apart and a reduced group of about 50 riders made their way to the finish. On the
last 35km Elizabeth Banks und Sophie Wright as part of a chasing group tried to come to the front of the peloton to chase down the solo escapee. At the end Lizzy was able to ride in a small group of five and take second place after a hard day in the saddle. After today’s stage she is also second in the GC.
Lizzy thanked her teammates after the race,”The girls have done a fantastic job. It was a tough day but we had a plan to go hard at the climb and split the bunch. I was able to get into a break of five riders and we pushed really hard and I got to the line and took second place. I am very grateful for all the hard work of my teammates in supporting me today.”
Team Manager Thomas Campana was full of praise for his team “ The team did well. We had a plan to attack at crucial points and this worked well. It was a difficult day with bad weather conditions but we achieved a second place at the end of the stage and also second place in the GC. So well done.”
