Giro Rosa Queen Stage changes up the general classification

The original route of the 100km long Queen stage of the Giro Rosa had to be changed due to the risk of landslides and inclement weather conditions on the famed Gavia. The start of the now only 88.8km long stage commenced in Ponte in Valtellina and because of bad conditions, the final ascent was moved from the Gavia to the 11.4km long and 5 per cent steep Lago di Cancano. On the first categorised climb, the peloton already split into several small groups. After 40km in the saddle, Nikola Noskova attacked solo and put some distance between her and a reduced field. With little less than 25km to the finish, she still maintained a lead of about a minute but eventually two riders caught up to her and several kilometers later the trio led with an advantage of over two minutes. 10km before the finish line on the final steep climb, Annemiek van Vleuten attacked and led solo at the head of the race. Despite several attacks on the last kilometres, the Dutch rider prevailed and took out the stage win. Although Bigla was very active on this challenging stage, having a rider solo up front for quite some time and several in the chasing group, they were not able to net a top-10 placing today.
