Giro Rosa Stage 3: Lepistö in the top 10

The third stage of the Giro Rosa ended in a bunch sprint for the second day in a row. Lotta Lepistö was in the mix for the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team, sprinting to tenth.

The stage was another hot one. Three breakaway riders were given a maximum time of 1 minute 50 seconds. A chase was on in earnest as the peloton was determined to see a sprint. They had their work cut out for them and the strong break worked well together. Eventually, the catch was made with 4 kilometres to go.

"I’m not happy because I wanted to win so badly today," Lepistö said. "It was a hectic final. I’m not happy about the sprint, I wanted more from today. I had good positioning but the sprint was chaotic with small roads and turns and riders going everywhere. The most important thing was to not lose time on GC so we succeeded there and tomorrow we give our best again. The team is motivated and we keep on moving forward."

The stage took place in Corbetta on a circuit of 16,5 kilometres raced eight times to make it the longest stage of the race over 132 kilometres. Stage four of the Italian Grand Tour starts and finishes in Piacenza.
