Impressive Ride In Vårgårda TTT
The Bigla Pro Cycling Team completed the Crescent Women World Cup Vårgårda Team Time Trial in fourth position on Friday. The ride was the first team time trial of the season and just like for Bigla, was a test for teams to see how they compared to each other ahead of the World Championships.
"I am very happy. We are up against teams with double our budget and we keep showing our potential," an ecstatic Team Manager, Thomas Campana said. "We lost Annemiek [van Vleuten] and had other hiccups which prevented us from some training sessions but the girls showed again how great they are."
Bigla crossed the finish line in a time of 53 minutes and 40 seconds over the 42,5 kilometre course. Rabo-Liv won the day with 52:51 followed by Velocio-SRAM 53:17 and Boels-Dolmans 53:20.
"I anticipated a tight race for third place," Carmen Small told us. "If we had a perfect ride I thought we could slot in there. We can't complain for having such lack of practise. It was a phenomenal day. Everyone is really happy. No one expected that from us. There's four teams who've put a lot of effort into training camps so it was good for us to be in the mix and up there amongst them. We talked a bit afterwards and to get this result for a new team leading into an Olympic year is a good sign which we will look to build on."
The team will now turn its attention to the road race on Sunday. The race is scheduled to start shortly after 9am and live streaming has been prepared.
