Julie Leth takes 6th place at Brabantse Pijl
Today the Bigla riders lined up at the start of the Belgian one-day race, Brabantse Pijl. The course featured six climbs as well as four cobbled sectors. The beginning of the race was characterised by numerous attacks and changing breakaway compositions, until eventually a small group was able to distance itself from the field. Back in the peloton, Bigla set the tempo and Julie Leth was able to make the jump into the leading group. The 11 riders at the head of the race worked well together, and the peloton was no longer able to reel them back in. In Gooik, the race was decided in a sprint from this group, in which Julie crossed the line in sixth place.
After the race, Team Manager Thomas Campana said: “Our two leaders were not present in the race today. So Julie and Maria took over the leadership in the team. We didn’t have any riders in the first breakaway, so the team worked hard to reduce the gap to the escapees. We were able to achieve this, and Julie was then able to make the jump into the leading group. That was a very impressive performance from such a young team. It looked as though this group would not be caught any more. On the last cobbled sector, Julie launched an attack, and the group split into several parts. In the end, it came to a sprint between nine riders, with Julie taking out sixth place. Everything went according to plan, and I’m happy with her achievement and the performance of the whole team.”
