Leah Thomas and Elizabeth Banks in the top 10 on Stage 4 of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour.
Today’s fourth stage of the Women’s Tour took the riders over 158.9km from Warwick to Burton Dassett. There were four classified climbs and two sprints to contest and in the end, the riders had to contend with a 12.6km-long circuit which had to be raced two times. In the tough uphill finish, Leah pulled off sixth place, with teammate Lizzy finished just behind in seventh. Team Manager Thomas Campana said about the events of today:
"Yesterday was a very difficult day for us, particularly as Julie Leth had to abandon the race. Due to the inclement weather condition the race today was also not easy. Towards the end of the stage were three challenging climbs and Leah and Lizzy were in a good position before the first ascent. They had to fall back slightly at the beginning but were able to catch up to the leaders on the second climb. We still have two hard stages ahead of us and despite the fact that we have only three riders in the race, I think we will aim for a top 10 in the General Classification.
