Lepistö sprints to podium in Spain

Lotta Lepistö bounced back from yesterday’s crash to finish on the podium in stage 3 of Setmana Ciclista Valenciana. The Gent-Wevelgem winner won the bunch sprint after the victory went to solo attacker Nicole Steigenga.

Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio maintained her lead in the mountains competition and third overall while the team won the team classification for the day.

“The sprint was hectic in the final,” Lepistö said after the stage. “I had a really good team around me for the lead-out. Emma [Norsgaard Jørgensen] is so young but helped me so much and Ashleigh was there positioning me in a flat sprint. It’s incredible. I won the peloton sprint after someone won solo. For me, it was nice to sprint again after crashing yesterday. It’s great to be back on the podium.”

With the only major climb coming 50 kilometres from the finish, the peloton raced the climb relatively conservatively. 52 riders made up the front group in the decent heading to the finishing city, Valencia. Steigenga made her move with approximately 20 kilometres to get a maintained an advantage of a few seconds over the peloton when crossing the line.

The final stage takes place on a 39,5km circuit in Benidorm over 118km.
