Liège-Bastogne-Liège brings yet another Top 10 result for Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig
Amidst rainy and cold conditions, the Bigla riders today took to the start of the 3rd edition of the Belgian Classic, Liège-Bastogne-Liège. This year’s race consisted of more climbs than previsions editions, and took the riders over almost 140km. The first part of the race was characterised by a series of changing breakaways, but on the climb to the Côte de la Redoute, the break was caught and everything came together again. However, it did not take long until a small group of riders, including Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, was able to distance itself from the field. At this time, van Vleuten launched an attack, and went on to lead the race alone, while the group containing Cecilie took up the chase behind her. Yet the Dutch rider was able to defy the pursuit behind, and crossed the line in Liège in first position. After finishing as part of a reduced sprint, Cecilie was able to take tenth place overall, yet another top 10 finish at this year’s Ardennes Classics for our Danish rider. Her teammate, Mikayla Harvey, who this year rode her first Belgian classics, ended the race in 26th place.
Team Manager, Thomas Campana, summarised what the race means for the team: “Today was a hard race. It was extremely cold, and rained the entire day, and these weather conditions made the race difficult for everyone. However, the team put in a very good performance, and this year we’ve experienced our most successful spring classics campaign.”
After the race, Cecilie reported: “The bad conditions made the race really difficult today. However, with Endura, we are lucky to have the best clothing, which is suitable for all weather conditions. At the foot of the Redoute climb, we still had five riders there, and they all did a fantastic job for me, and brought me into a good position on the climb. In the last kilometres, I managed to make it into a small group, and we took chase after Annemiek, however in the end she was just too strong. I think that the Bigla riders have made such progress this week. We’re getting better day by day, and it’s also great to see such a fantastic team spirit among us all.”
