The second stage of Setmana Ciclista Valenciana made for exciting viewing. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio moved to third on the general classification and the lead in the mountains classification.

Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig moved up to fifth on the overall classifications after gaining bonus seconds in the second sprint.

Moolman-Pasio was the top finisher, sprinting to 8th. Lotta Lepistö crashed in the last kilometre, forfeiting the opportunity to sprint for the stage win. Marta Bastianelli (Ale-Cipollini) won the stage.

Ann-Sophie Duyck and Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen featured in the main breakaway of the day before the race opened up on the final climb of the day.

“The team did a really great job working well together. We had a really nice climb but unfortunately it came too far from the finish,” Moolman-Pasio said.

“Ann-Sophie and Emma were in the breakaway approaching the climb. It was the perfect situation for us because we had teammates over the top of the climb. We had a good group off the front but unfortunately a head wind meant a lot of riders came back so we decided to go all in for the sprint with Lotta. It was unfortunate that she crashed on the last corner but all things considering, it was a really good day for us and we’re pushing forward with another two stages left.”

Stage theee is the longest of the race from Sagunt to Valencia over 137 kilometers.
