Photos and Commentary From Elsy Jacobs Stage 2
The second stage of the Elsy Jacobs tour had an exciting finish with a break of four surviving by only two seconds. Elena Cecchini was the strongest in the sprint winning the day for Lotto-Soudal. Annemiek van Vleuten won the bunch sprint for Bigla Pro Cycling Team to finish fifth and maintain her second place on the general classification.
Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio also finished in the front group and moved up one place to sixth on the general classification. Vera Koedooder takes us through the day.
Today was hard, I had a clear mission before the stage and that was to attack and be in a breakaway.
The speed was very high from the start and it cost me at least 6 attacks but then I was finally got away and after about 5km I got Kopecky (Bel Nat Team) and Diederiksen (Boels) with me.
I had to do most of the work though but got a good gap for a while with 1'20" - 1'40"
After we got caught I drove one more time full gass to the first hill of the local lap with the other teammates and then it was done and unfortunately could not stay a bit longer on the hilly local lap.
Unfortunately a breakaway of 4 stayed away in final
But a very strong 5th from Annemiek
