Thüringen Rundfahrt Stage 5: Two in the top 10
Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team was again active during stage 5 of Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen, placing two riders in the top ten on the stage. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio sprinted to eighth followed by Joëlle Numainville in tenth.
After picking up sprint points throughout the stage, Lotta Lepistö maintained her lead in the sprint competition. With bonus seconds on offer on the finish line, Marianne Vos (Rabo Liv) moved into third place on the overall after winning the day’s stage. Moolman-Pasio is fourth overall with two days left to race.
“It was an interesting stage,” the South African said. “It was very technical with small roads going up and down all the time. A breakaway went away with Linda Villumsen who was the most dangerous rider for the GC. Greenedge had a rider there [Gracie Elvin] too so they had no interest in chasing. The girls did a great job coming into the second sprint where we got on the front as a team to lead Lotta out and put some pressure on after the sprint into the second GPM climb. There was a small split at the top but it wasn’t enough to make the difference. We had quite a steep descent to the finish which was nerve-wracking. We can see riders getting tired. We have two hard stages to go and we will go it all as a team to go for the victory," Moolman-Pasio concluded.
The two longest stages of the race are left with Wednesday's stage 6 over 130 kilometres and stage 7 over 131 kilometres.
