18-year-old Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen earns impressive silver medal in Denmark
The medals kept rolling in for the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team from the national championships as Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen picked up the silver medal in the Danish road race.
It was an impressive result from the 18-year-old who is in her first year as a professional. The course was made up of 120 kilometres with a predominately flat profile but an uphill finish.
“The race started quit slow then in the end it picked up and became really hard,” Norsgaard Jørgensen said. “It was a great race. Cille [Uttrup Ludwig] and I were in the group of 7 in the final, all the favourites were there so it was perfect to have her by my side. She kept telling me to relax and keep my focus on the sprint and she was driving the pace for me.”
“I’m not sure if I’m satisfied with the result but if I was to lose, I’m glad it was to Amalie [Dideriksen] because she’s a great rider and was just too strong today. Of course, we wanted to win but I’m not sure we could have done any better. I’m very tired and we gave it our all. This result is good for my future and my development.”
The final race in the national championships takes place tomorrow in Switzerland. Nicole Hanselmann will line up as the defending champion and after already winning the time trial title.
