Shelley Olds got the Tour of Chongming Island off to a good start, sprinting to second on the opening stage. Kirsten Wild (Hitec Products) took the win from a reduced bunch. Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle-Honda) was third.
Earlier in the day, Olds won the first intermediate sprint ahead of Wild, showing good form for the Chinese campaign.
The stage ended in an expected bunch sprint, however it was from a smaller peloton as the race split thanks to the high speed in the final. Several groups formed on the road and Bigla Pro Cycling Team ensured Olds kept a good position in the front.
Finnish national champion Lotta Lepistö also finished in the top ten, sprinting to eighth.
The result put Wild in the leaders jersey. Olds trails her by 6 seconds while Bronzini is third overall, 9 seconds behind.

Shelley won the first bonus sprint but at the second one she got boxed without any chance to sprint. Then at the final one she was good taking the 2nd place. We are happy with the result because the team raced well and Shelley showed she is strong. We know this course suits Wild but with our team work we will fight for the win.
