Bigla shows strong form at the Boels Ladies Tour
The final stage of the Boels Ladies Tour saw several riders attempt to escape from the field after the start gun, yet the peloton was not willing to let them break free. As a result, the race stayed together until 65km remaining, when a soloist was able to successfully put distance between herself and the main field. Over the last 40km of racing, several further attacks were launched, with the Bigla riders also in the thick of the action, but these were eventually thwarted, with the soloist also being reeled back in. Not long afterwards, another rider managed to escape and was pursued by a reduced field, containing several Bigla riders, but with around 12km remaining, the peloton had her in its sights and it was not long before she was caught. Over the last kilometres, Leah Thomas was able to mix it up in the reduced leading group, from which Chiara Consonni ultimately took the stage win. Leah also finished tenth in the general classification.
Bigla ends the Boels Ladies Tour with five top ten places, a strong result for such a young team. This week, Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen also showed that she has returned to good form after seven months of absence due to injury. In addition, Leah Thomas and Lizzy Banks rode particularly attentively during the race’s six days and were both able to net top ten placings on the penultimate stage. These results, however, were only possible due to the strong teamwork of the entire squad, which gave its best despite challenging terrain and inclement weather conditions over the past week.
