Bira ends with two riders inside the top 10 overall
Emakumeen XXX. Bira culminated on Tuesday with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio earning yet another top 10 after finishing seventh on the stage.
The South African finished sixth overall with Clara Koppenburg ninth, placing two Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling riders inside the top ten.
“It ended up being a very tactical race and you needed the strength in numbers,” Moolman-Pasio said. “I attacked multiple times on the hard climb and did get away but unfortunately it was on a big wide open road where I couldn’t get out of sight.”
Koppenburg was presented with an award for her breakout performance in the race. She earned her first World Tour podium during the previous stage. Moolman-Pasio complemented the German’s performance.
“Clara showed huge progress and just buried herself. She was incredible, covering moves and being active all day. She crossed the finish line and had nothing left. This is a breakout performance from her and that’s beautiful to see in cycling - a rider willing to do everything for the team. She’s always doing that and it’s a beautiful part of the sport.”
The race calendar continues this weekend. The team will travel to France for La Classique for Morbihan (25 May) and Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan Dames (26 May). Moolman-Pasio is the defending champion in both events.
