Chongming Island World Cup: Best Team, Olds 4th, Lepistö 5th

The Bigla Pro Cycling Team ended its Chinese campaign on Sunday in the Chomgming Island World Cup as the best team while Shelley Olds and Lotta Lepistö both finished in the top ten. Olds crossed the line fourth followed by Lepistö in fifth.

As was expected, the race finished in a bunch sprint with Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle Honda) out-sprinting last year's winner Kirsten Wild (Hitec Products) and Fanny Riberot (France). Much like the stage race earlier this week, the race came down to a big gallop to the line, however, the teams of the sprinters had to chase down late attacks in the finale.

BPCT sent a young team to the Chinese races to support sprinter Olds. Earlier in the week, the team got its campaign off to a positive start during the opening stage of the three-day race when the American narrowly missed out on victory to place second. From there the team faced some bad luck as on the last stage Olds was forced to stop her sprint with 200m to go as someone rode into the back of her and broke her derailleur.

The misfortune motivated the team for today's UCI World Cup race. The result today also places BPCT fourth in the Women's World Cup Team Ranking. Annemiek van Vleuten remains second in the rider rankings.

The team will now turn its attention to racing in the United States of America, first in Winston Salem Cycling Classic (31 May)before the next round of the World Cup, The Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic (7 June).

On the start line. Lotta Lepistö has a quick drink from her TACX bottle.

Caroline Baur, Shelley Olds and Nicole Hanselman spend some time with the Indonesian national team. It's great to see the rise of Asian women's cycling.
