Danish Time Trial Champion Cecilie Ludwig looking to develop on Cervélo Bigla
Cecilie Ludwig is one of the most talented riders in the professional peloton after achieving impressive results during her young career. With ambitions of becoming a well-rounded cyclist, the 21-year-old says Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team’s development structure is what attracted her to the team.
“I believe I can really develop on Cervélo-Bigla. Both the staff and riders are so professional. I get inspired by the way the team tackles races. I wanted to be part of that when I saw it,” Ludwig said.
After spending her junior years as a competitive swimmer, Ludwig started cycling in 2008. Illness forced her to try other sports and cycling is the one she fell in love with.
“I swam on a high level but I kept getting sick. I tried every sport and cycling ended up the sport that I loved the most. It’s a fantastic sport.”
She’s racked up some impressive results during her young career. One of the most memorable ones was the silver medal in the time trial World Championships as a junior in 2012. “It’s quite funny when I think back to that. It was quite a big result. That was my first real international race, nobody had expectations and I was just riding for fun and it ended up being this amazing thing.”
Impressive results followed. Two standout achievements in 2016 was winning the Danish time trial championships along with two stages and the overall in Tour de Feminin. She says the latter was a race she really enjoyed and dedicated her victory to great teamwork – something she loves. Teammwork is what attracted her to Cervélo Bigla.
“I noticed the team in Auensteiner, that was a beautiful win for Ashleigh [Moolman-Pasio]. The whole team sacrificed for her, they were all on the front of the peloton pulling for her and it was beautiful to see that succeed. That is something that is really beautiful about cycling and I am looking forward to us being united and one unit.”
Despite her victory in the Danish national time trial championships, Ludwig believes she has space to develop in the discipline. She says the team management has guided her through spending more time on the Cervélo P5. “My dream is to become a good stage race rider when I’m older and you need to do a good TT. I’m looking forward to spending more time on the P5”
