The Race Report – By Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio
From Le Samyn des Dames
The team had a really good race today. We started with one big lap on the route and then two laps on a 25 kilometre circuit to finish things off. On the finishing circuit there were 3 cobbled sections. As a team, we knew what to expect because we had seen the lap on Monday so we were prepared for it.
In general I think it was a great team effort because after the first cobbled section, we had all five the team in the front with the exception of Doris who fell ill and had to stop. We’re getting closer and closer to ‘gelling’ as a team and finishing it off.
I was in the late attack of six riders and I didn’t realise how fast the peloton was coming from behind. We didn’t have good cooperation in the break in the last few kilometres and we didn’t have good updates. The last time check we received we were told that the gap was a minute so we thought we had time to play with.
Boels-Dolmans were chasing from behind. I think they were trying to get another rider across perhaps and then they rode hard on the front to bring us back and they won the race so well done to them.
I did my best in the sprint under the circumstances and held on for sixth but I think we’re getting closer and closer to our plans of finishing it off and getting that win as a team.
We’re a completely new team and with every race we’re getting to know each other better and I think it was a great day for Bigla Pro Cycling Team.
