Third place for Moolman-Pasio in Elsy Jacobs stage

Dritter Platz für Moolman-Pasio auf der Elsy Jacobs-Bühne

For the second day in a row, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finished on the podium of Festival Elsy Jacobs. Following her victory in the prologue, the South African sprinted to third on stage 1. Local rider Christine Majerus (Boels-Dolmans) won the stage, earning her the yellow jersey.

Lotta Lepistö and Lisa Klein played a supporting role, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. The result for Klein means she maintains the lead in the young rider competition while the team leads the overall team competition. Moolman-Pasio is second on the general classification, three seconds adrift.

"We rode well as a team and showed our objective to defend the yellow jersey," Moolman-Pasio said. "We were aggressive on the climbs, I encouraged Marie [Vilmann] to attack on the first GPM to start learning her limits. She did a great job and created pressure which split the peloton which dropped some of the good riders."

"I was also aggressive on the climbs to soften some legs and to see who responded. Everything came back together and that created an opportunity for our sprinters. The sprint was very technical with a downhill and a crazy corner so it wasn't easy to get an organised leadout. When the sprint opened my instinct was to go. We lost the jersey but it's only three seconds and tomorrow is going to be another hard stage."

The peloton was drastically reduced after approaching the first GPM of the day. Marie Vilmann and Moolman-Pasio crested the climb first. As the speed in the peloton increased up the climb, several riders lost contact. The lead group made up of around 30 riders increased their gap to the chase group and ultimately stayed away. The stage win was contested from this group.

The final stage takes place on Sunday. The stage will be contested from Garnich to Garnich over 111.1km's with 3 GPM's.
