Difficult fourth stage at the Giro Rosa
The fourth stage of the Giro Rosa took the riders over 100km of undulating terrain from Lissone to Carate Brianza in the Lombardy region of Italy. Several steep ramps and a challenging course awaited the riders on today's stage. After 70km, an intermediate sprint in Sovico was contested, followed by a QOM in Besana, before the peloton took on a lengthy descent into the finishing town. Team leader Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig went into the stage as second in the GC. Early breakaway attempts were unsuccessful as the tempo was kept high by the main field right from the start. At 55km into the race, a small group was eventually able to get away and carve out a few minutes advantage over the main field. On the final climb, the advantage began to dwindle but the field was unable to catch up to the leading three riders, and in the end Letizia Borghesi crossed the finish line first. After a hard day in the saddle, the Bigla riders arrived at the finish with the rest of the main field.
