Despite a disappointing end to the final stage of Tour of Chongming Island where Shelley Olds sprint was interrupted by a crash that broke her bicycle, the American managed to secure fifth in the overall standings.
Roxane Fournier (Poitou-Charentes Futuroscope 86) won the final stage while Kristen Wild (Hitec Products) retained the yellow jersey to win the overall tour.
Olds was being leadout by the team in the rainy final when someone rode into her back wheel causing her derailleur to break.
After the finish, Lotta Lepistö, said "It was raining all day and it was a tough stage. The plan was to protect Shelley for all the sprints. Someone rode into the back of her in the sprint and broke her bike. We are all disappointed but we will now fully focus on the World Cup."
Sports Director, Manel Lacambra added, "The team did their best today racing in pouring rain conditions and controlling the race. At the first bonus sprint Shelley crashed with some other sprinters. Then when the team was setting Shelley up for the final sprint at 500m to the finish line a rider crashed into her back wheel and broke her derailleur taking her out of the final sprint."
Lacambra concluded, "We are disappointed for our bad luck today but we look forward for the World Cup Sunday."
Sunday's Chongming Island World Cup is the next race in the UCI series.
