Bigla took to the start of the second stage of the five-day French stage race today, which led the peloton over 115km from Plouay to Pontivy. The parcours featured three QOMs and a 5km-long finishing circuit that had to be completed five times. Sophie Wright, who wore the QOM jersey, was also able to collect points in the mountain classification, but was faced with tough competition from other teams. Earlier breakaway attempts were reeled back in by the peloton, however towards the end of the race, the peloton split as they passed through the finish line several times before the finale. Towards the end of the race, on the final laps, Bigla was represented in extremely strong numbers at the head of the field. The peloton began to split and the stage was ultimately decided in a reduced sprint to the finish line from the first group on the road, with Wild taking the win, and Cecilie finishing in a strong fourth place, which comes after her podium place on yesterday’s stage. We now head into the race against the clock tomorrow.

Team Manager Thomas Campana explained after the stage: “It was a difficult day for our young team. They had expected that the finale would have perhaps been a little harder, and that only the riders with good climbing legs would survive. However, in the end the gradients were not steep enough to force a huge selection in this manner, and non-climbers were able to survive. A group of around 20 riders came to the finish and contested the stage in a sprint, and Cecilie ended up taking fouth place. However, this is an experience that our young group will only learn from, and we continue to look ahead to what will happen on tomorrow’s time trial stage.”
