Weekend of racing in Italy comes to a close with the GP Bruno Beghelli
Today was the Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli, the second of two races in Italy for the team this weekend. The race consisted of 79km and several laps, which each featured a climb at Zappolino (1.5km; 5.3%), yet it was expected that the race would come down to a sprint finish.
After yesterday's performance at the Giro dell'Emilia, where Nikola Nosková took an impressive third place following a strong display of teamwork, the Bigla riders were looking to put on yet another good showing. Nikola made it into the early move of the day, but was eventually reeled back in. Over the final few laps, the team then had Lizzy Banks attack, who was able to gain half a minute's lead on the field. However on the last climb she was caught by the peloton, which had increased the tempo before the final sprint preparations. The ascents in the lead-up to the finale were not long or hard enough to break up the field and, as expected, the sprinters' teams controlled the final kilometres, with the race being decided by a sprint in Monteveglio and Bastianelli taking the win. Bigla leaves the weekend of racing in Italy with a strong podium place from Nikola Nosková at yesterday's Giro dell'Emilia, and now looks towards the next race, the Chrono des Nations later this month.
