Impressive Moolman-Pasio storms to victory in Spain
In what has to be one of the most classy rides this year, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio soloed to victory in Emakumeen XXX. Bira last Sunday.
The South African who returned to racing this season with a hip fracture has been impressive, putting on several attacking performances in 2017. The South African time trial champion now boasts four victories this year.
"The girls were just amazing. To win without them would have been impossible. We only had four riders compared to other teams with six and everyone just gave their all. Christina [Perchtold] really sacrificed everything. Cecilie [Uttrup Ludwig] put in a big attack leading into the climb which put the pressure on and created the opportunity for me to go. Clara [Koppenburg] was dependable all week, always there when we needed her. I'm happy with this win. It has been a long journey back and it's satisfying when hard work pays off."
Moolman-Pasio has for long been one of the most consistent riders in the peloton. The victory has propelled her into the top 10 of the UCI Rankings.
