Koppenburg 9 seconds off podium in Ljubljana time trial
Clara Koppenburg continued her impressive trajectory this season by placing fourth in Ljubljana-Domzale-Ljubljana time trial today. The 22-year-old blazed through the 23.5 kilometre course, 45 seconds slower than the winner and only nine seconds away from third place.
Belgian national time trial champion Ann-Sophie Duyck placed fifth. Koppenburg who has had some impressive results this year after achieving her first World Tour podium in Emakumeen Bira was satisfied with her performance.
“It was quite a smooth run,” she said. “Everything went perfectly. Of course, I’m happy with my performance but 4th is always a bit tricky because you’re so close to the podium. I crossed the line and had the fastest time at this moment so I’m making progress. It went really well and I’m happy how my TT performance is increasing. I think I’m on a good way and this was the perfect test for nationals. My fighting spirit is getting stronger. With Thomas [Campana] behind in the car, it’s always smooth and easier for me because he’s leading me through the perfect lines and keeps on telling me that’s it’s good. I’m looking forward to the next races.”
The racing calendar for Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team continues next week in the World Tour when the team travels to the UK for the OVO Energy Women’s Tour. The race will take place from 13-17 June.
