Leah Thomas’ first impressions from the Bigla Partner & Performance Camp
There are some big changes in the team in the 2019 season, including several new riders in the roster, exciting new bikes, and a completely re-designed kit. We spoke with Leah Thomas at team camp to hear her thoughts.
1. What do you think about your new Chapter2 bikes?
I was surprised by how quickly I felt comfortable and confident on my Chapter2 RERE. I feel like the bike is really responsive and easy to manipulate. The attention to detail is apparent throughout the bike, from the aero design of the frame to the beautiful paint job. Those details make a real difference and it is exciting to be riding a product that has been so well thought out and designed. It has been a pleasure to ride so far and I can’t wait to get the season underway and race it!
2. There are many new riders on the team roster this year. How is everyone getting along at the camp? What’s the atmosphere like?
This year, Bigla has almost an entirely new roster. Team camp went from zero to sixty as we jumped into our first race of the season on the second day of camp. I was impressed at how well we rode as a unit for having just met one another. It is very apparent that we all want to race well as a team for a common goal and are hungry to grow, learn, sacrifice for one another on the way to achieving some good results this year. The atmosphere is filled with an eager anticipation and I believe that the team has the right blend of personalities to really race cohesively this year. It has been a pleasure to get to know them both on and off the bike!
I have also been so impressed by our fabulous staff! They have done such a great job of making sure every detail is taken care of, from equipment to nutrition to recovery. They make our job so much easier and I am excited to work with them this season.
3. The team’s kit is very different from previous years. What are your thoughts on the new design?
With an entirely new look from last season, our Endura team kit looks and fits great! I love the simplicity of the kit- that the design speaks for itself rather than being covered in logos. The thought that went into the concept is apparent and I love how everything from the helmet to the socks match. It is my first time wearing Endura clothing and I am impressed by not only its comfort, but how versatile and resilient the clothing is. Bring on the European spring, because we have the best clothing for it!
4. How does Bigla compare to your previous teams? What’s different about this team?
Bigla has been the most organised team I have ever been a part of. From getting equipment early to have a solid plan for the season laid out, they have been on top of every detail. And that’s with a mostly new rider roster, new kit design, and new bikes. Needless to say, I am incredibly impressed!
The team has high expectations and that was one of my main draws to this team. I want to develop and grow as a bike racer, and I think this team has the knowledge and support to do that. We are expected to step outside our comfort zones and try new things, and while that can at times be scary, it is the only way to improve and learn. I am grateful to be in a place where this is actively encouraged and in a place where we can reflect on what went well and where we can improve.
The girls are awesome! I love being surrounded by these women who are from so many different places. We all bring a unique perspective to the table and I appreciate getting to see a small glimpse into each culture as I get to know my teammates.
5. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I am super excited and eager to get the season underway! I think camp has been motivating this far and we are all eager to tests the legs in this early season. I am grateful to be here where I am full of anticipation for what we can accomplish together this season.
