Shelley Olds will make her return to racing this weekend for Bigla Pro Cycling Team. The American has been sidelined since fracturing her ribs in Ronde van Drenthe.
The team will be in action on Saturday in Omloop van Borsele and Dwars door de Westhoek on Sunday.
Olds commented on the injury saying, ”They say that how a setback effects you is decided in the first few minutes when it occurs. From the first day that I knew I had a broken rib, I have focused on staying positive and moving forward. As soon as I could start working, I did. The first days were difficult, but every day I saw progress and I felt better with each week that passed.”
Olds spent some time off the bike after the crash but was able to return to training sooner than expected.
“I am taking it one day at a time still, but I am very excited to race and grateful that it is possible. The doctors told me it can take 6-12 weeks to recover, so to be able to come back this soon is great. However, the trauma of the crash effected me in more places than my rib, and my whole body is still working to recover. But I know that I have worked really hard in the last month, and I want to race more than anything now. I really want to rejoin my team and enjoy the races,” the sprinter continued.
She continued saying she followed the racing while recovering and it kept her motivated. The Bigla Pro Cycling Team will look to continue the momentum of the midweek success after Annemiek van Vleuten was second in Flèche Wallonne while Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio was fourth.
