Stage 1 of the Boels Ladies Tour decided in fast finale in Weert

A flat stage of 123km awaited the riders on the first stage of the Boels Ladies Tour. Despite some early breakaway attempts, the race remained together for most of the stage. However, it was not necessarily a straightforward procession to Weert, with several crashes marring the stage. A soloist attacked with around 30km remaining and pedalled out an advantage of up to 40 seconds, but was reeled back in with over 5km left to race. The stage then came down to the expected bunch sprint, which was taken out by Wiebes, with Emma Norsgaard Jørgensen our top-placed finisher in 20th position. Leah Thomas remains out highest-placed rider in the general classification, in 11th place, 11 seconds behind the overall leader.
