Top 10 place for Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig at Flèche Wallonne
The team took to the start line of Flèche Wallonne Féminine today, which this year featured a 120km-long course with seven climbs, including the famous Mur de Huy, which the riders had to take on twice. From the get-go, the racing was tough, and the first kilometres were characterised by the formation of several different breakaway groups. Before the climb of the famed Mur de Huy 30km ahead of the finish line, the peloton was significantly reduced, and many riders had to fall back. As expected, over the final kilometres, there were a series of attacks. In the last few kilometres, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig put in a strong performance and managed to get into a leading group of riders. In the end, van der Breggen proved to be the fastest up the Mur de Huy, however Cecilie put in an incredibly strong effort, and was rewarded with eighth place, yet another top 10 finish for the Danish rider.
After the race, Cecilie was full of praise for her teammates, saying: “This was one of the best team performances that I’ve ever seen. It was unbelievable how we worked together so well. My teammates worked so hard, in the crosswinds, and to position me well heading into the climbs. I’m a bit disappointed to not have been able to finish off the job for them today. However, I’m very thankful for their efforts. They are a young team, and have so much potential.”
Team Manager Thomas echoed these sentiments, commenting: “The team’s performance today was outstanding. We had a clear plan and several talented climbers who made it over the climbs well to support Cille right into the final ascents and bring her into a good position. She didn’t have the legs today to take the victory or a podium however, overall we are very happy with the team performance. They’re progressing very well and it is a matter of time until they win a race.”
